The peroneus brevis is located in the lower leg, specifically in the lateral compartment, which is situated on the outer side of the leg. It originates from the fibula, a thin bone on the lateral aspect of the lower leg, and runs downwards before inserting at the base of the fifth metatarsal on the outer side of the foot. This positioning allows the muscle to exert its influence directly on the foot, linking the motion between the ankle and the forefoot. In relation to other muscles in the compartment, the peroneus longus runs parallel and is located above it, while the extensor digitorum longus is found in the anterior compartment, further showcasing the complexity and organization of the muscular structure in this area.
